日本は12日ですが、アメリカは本日が11日。。今日で9-11アメリカ同時多発テロが起きた日から8年。今でも思い出します、2001年9月11日は火曜日で、私は当時カレッジ生。その日は歴史のクラスがあり、教室に着くと、教授がその日は出席だけとって授業をキャンセルし私たちを家に帰してくれました。一番覚えているのは、ハイジャックされた飛行機に乗っていた娘さんと、事件直前に電話で話をしていたという父親のインタビューでした。“I'll see you in a few hours, I love you.(数時間後に会おうね、愛してるわ) ” が2人の交わした最後の言葉だったと涙ながらに語っていた40代後半くらいの男性の顔が今でも忘れられません。あれから8年、私たちは、こういう悲劇が起きたとき、はっと当たり前なことを当たり前だと思ってはいけないのだと思い知らされます。こうやって今があって、そしておそらく明日もちゃんとやってきてくれるであろうことを当たり前だと思ってはいけないんですよね。毎日があることはとても幸運なことであると思って生きていきたい、とこの日が来るたびに思います。そう考えると人にも優しくなれるし、小さなことにも感謝の気持ちをもてるようになるものです。ちょっとのことに怒ったり悲観したりするのは恥ずかしいことなのだ、と思い知らされます。皆さんは9-11が起きたのを見たとき、どんなことを考えましたか？
It is Sept. 12th here in Japan, but it is Sept. 11th in the states today. It has been 8 years since 9-11 terrorism happened. I still remember the day; it was Tuesday and I was a college student. When I got to a history class, the teacher took our attendance and let us go home for the day. One thing I can never forget is an interview with a father whose daughtor was in the highjacked airplane. I can't forget the father talking in tears that they talked on the phone before the crash and the last word they exchanged was "I will see you in a few hours, I love you." 8 years since that day,, every time we see something tragic like this, we realize that we can never take any little thing for granted. We should never take for granted the fact that we have today and that tomorrow will most likely come with no worry. Every this time of the year, I feel that I want to live a life with appreciation. With that thought, you can naturally be kind to people and feel ashamed about being upset with something small. What was your thought on today?
